James E. Walters is a trial lawyer with almost 20 years of courtroom experience. James graduated from Northeastern State University with a B.A. in Political Science, after which he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in executive management positions. While there, James gained invaluable experience within Indian Country regarding sovereignty and other related tribal issues.
James went on to The University of Tulsa College of Law and upon graduating joined a well-known Tulsa insurance defense firm focusing on medical malpractice defense. After gaining invaluable civil litigation experience there, James then became a prosecuting attorney for the State of Oklahoma, eventually being named First Assistant District Attorney for Grady and Caddo Counties. As lead trial attorney fighting for victims of violent crimes, James was able to pursue his passion of protecting the citizens of Oklahoma. James takes this same passion into the courtroom on every case and with every client he represents today.
James has extensive federal, state and tribal court experience in complex civil litigation, medical malpractice, auto collisions and injury work, juvenile matters, family and domestic law, criminal law, Constitutional law, contracts, construction, business formation, and Indian law. James now devotes his practice to complex civil litigation, criminal defense, family, and Indian law.
James lives in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma with his wife ReTonya who is a lifelong educator. They are the proud parents of two adult sons. James is licensed to practice in all state jurisdictions in Oklahoma, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of Oklahoma and the Central District of Illinois.
